Our Engagement Story!
After 7 and a half years of dating, we are engaged!
For those of you who may not know, Casey and I met Senior year of high school. I can share that story another time...it's pretty cute! We did long distance for two years total during college and have been living together for about three years in Chicago, IL. Recently, we made the move to Washington State for his job and that's where the engagement story begins.
For our move, we made the 33 hour long drive from Chicago to Washington. Along the way, we stopped at Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone and Glacier National Park. On our very last stop, Glacier, we were driving around looking for a dog-friendly hike to take Macky Mae on (see her picture below because I am obsessed with her). Unfortunately, we were running into signs all over the park stating no dogs for their safety and the safety of the wild animals who live in the park.
This was totally understandable but threw a wrench in our plans to find hiking trails and explore the park. I was a little annoyed but was trying to just enjoy the views. Casey on the other hand, was getting really frustrated and visibly irritated. When I asked him why he was getting so worked up about essentially taking the dog for a walk, he said, "I just want to get some good pictures!"
With that in mind, we saw a lookout point up ahead and decided to check it out. To our surprise, there was a hidden set of stairs so - naturally - we went to see where they lead. What we ended up finding was a secluded beach on McDonald Lake with water so clear, we could see straight down into the middle of the lake with no problems. It was so beautiful; the scenery truly took my breath away!
Casey and I took the obligatory selfies of us and the dog and then Casey suggested we have someone take our photo. I said, "sure, that's a great idea!" We had done this before so I thought nothing of it. Unbenounced to me, he mentioned to the woman as he handed her his phone, "I am going to propose, can you take a video?"
As we were taking photos, I could feel Casey moving away from me inch by inch. I was thinking, "What the heck. Why is he moving away from me?" He started to go down on one knee and I honestly figured he was tying his shoes. That's when he pulled out the Tiffany-blue box.
So, there you have it - our engagement story! We could not be happier or more thankful for all of the support we have gotten. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of the love, it means the world!
