Wedding Planning | Where Do I Begin?

I recently took a bridal quiz which kindly reminded me that I am, in fact, a 'Rookie' when it comes to wedding planning.

If you know me, you know that I love to plan! I love to be organized and know what's going on. I like to be in control of big events and fun scenarios. However, I have no idea where to even start when it comes to wedding planning. Yep, I am definitely a 'Rookie.'

Like most planners I know, I decided the first logical step to learning all I can about what goes into a wedding is to do my research. For me, that means reading physical books (as opposed to online forums) so I picked up four to try and soak all of the wedding-goodness up:

Stuff Every Bride Should Know

by Michelle Park Lazette

---

This petite handbook is a personal wedding planner you can carry in your pocket! The perfect engagement present or planning handbook for any soon-to-be bride, this manual is packed with tips to plan, execute, and enjoy the perfect engagement and wedding.

In talking to my married friends, the next step seemed to be buying my own physical wedding planner book. With so many on the market, I went to my favorite site - Amazon. This planner was not only beautiful and on sale, but it has almost 1,000 five-star ratings from real brides!

Once I had my arsonal of books and planners, I decided I also needed to talk to a professional. With so much to consider, I realized that I need an unbiased source of help. So, I went to The Knot's website and looked up wedding planners in my area. While we don't yet know quite where we want to be married, I thought some help was better than no help.

Upon reviewing The Knot's preferred planners, I made an appointment with A Piece of Cake Events, Inc. to review what I may need from a wedding coordinator. The Director, Dawnette, was so kind and answered all of my questions. She put my mind at ease regarding certain sensitive topics and added a few items I should be considering. We concluded that the best place for me to start would be venue: What are Casey and I looking for in a venue? Where is the ideal place for us, and for our family, to be married? Do we want indoor or outdoor? Do we want a hotel or an off-site venue? Questions like these are exactly what I needed to get started!

Whether or not we hire on a wedding coordinator to guide us through the process is still up in the air. But, regardless, the complementary initial conversation was so helpful; I would recommend every bride at least set up one consultation to see where you are, what you may need and what you're not necessarily contemplating when it comes to planning your special day.

So, there is where I am at! Do I feel confident in planning a wedding? Heck no! But I know this is a good place to start and I am not alone in this new adventure.
